All Geared Up and Ready to Rust

I have always liked old, rusty items.  They are very interesting to me and inspire thoughts of what they might have been like new.  These old gears inspire those thoughts.  What were these used for?  Why are they no longer useful?  The rust colors play beautifully off of the turquoise paint.

The painting is done in acrylics on gallery wrapped canvas.  It is 18" x 24" x 1.5" and there is no need for framing as the painting carries over to the sides.
